The Museum

On Tuesday 30 October 2012 we went to the museum. Some of us went in the van and some of us went in the bus. We left school at 10.00 and headed our way to the museum. The trip was for the whole school even the teachers. We went there for a reason and the reason was to go and look at the carving and look at all sorts of plants and some that aren’t plants.

When we got to the museum we were split into 6 groups 2 from each class. In those groups were teachers with them and each group went to different places some went to the fernery and some went in the museum to look at the whare-(house)  and also we got booklets, In those booklets were some questions and information about plants, carvings in the house, animals we needed to find answers on the Marae.

In the fernery was some fishes, tad ponds, frogs, some plants, and there were even silver ferns and all sorts of trees like cabbage tree, vines sticking out and even a nikau tree. There korus there the was even a bamboo, After certain times we would swap one group goes to their spot and they go to our spot and so we rotated around and we came to pass a place with fish in it and there wasn’t just one fish there was many they were gold fish. After that we went into this hot house where there is some plants there that smell nice and some plants that don’t smell nice or even don’t have a smell.  But in the hot house were some lily’s and under that were some tad ponds and we even saw some awesome frogs some were big and some were small.

We had to answer questions on the booklet about plants like what plant has the best smell?, not so good smell?, and which one is your favourite and why? and we had some on the lily pad’s what is the width of one lily pad and why do flowers have so bright colours?. We also got to feed the tad ponds we got some of their food and we gave it to them. We had so much fun looking all sorts of different plants, trees, fishes, and flowers.

In the museum we saw some Maori people doing the haka and some taking photos. Some of us were asking for information and some asked to say who is the carving on top and why is he their. We also asked who is the ancestral figure on the carving on another whare the meeting house. We had to take off our shoes in case of dirt and respect. When we got inside we saw many carvings and many tuku tuku mats beside it and each mat means something.

After that we had to go back to the bus and go to school cause we finished and when we got back we just got to our class and do some work. Then the day was over.
